Trainee Pre-Construction Managers – Multiple locations

The role

Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will be assisting with ensuring the clear, concise and timely information transfer between the client and drawing office in the form of architect’s drawings and details.  You will be responsible for resolving TQs prior to commencement of design and informing Project Surveyors of client variations occurring after design freeze / order / LOI.

  • Support Business Development by providing technical assistance to the Pre-Construction Managers for their project requirements.
  • Assist with providing value engineered design solutions to customers which are within budgetary constraints.
  • Work with Pre-Construction Managers as they plan the front-end activities of the project, monitor and control the plan. Co-ordinate the plan across the stakeholders, internally and externally. Communicate the plan as required.
  • Ensure customer technical queries and requests for information are answered accurately and timeously. Liaise with all stakeholders, including external design teams, to resolve and record queries.
  • Work with the project team to monitor and control the specification, scope of works and designs so that there is a universally understood version of the final project documents prior to production design.
  • Identify to the commercial team post contract variations that arise out of design development.
  • Shadow the Pre-Construction Managers as they act as a key contact for the customer and design teams; attend project meetings as required, you will also record and co-ordinate meeting actions.
  • Co-ordinate relevant internal project design activities including HSEQ matters, especially Construction, Design & Management Regulations, assist the PCM as they chair internal project meetings, co-ordinate and distribute actions for design, purchasing, commercial functions, construction team inputs.
  • Shadow and learn from the Pre-Construction Managers as they go about their role, working to enhance your own expertise and take on additional design coordinator responsibilities.
  • Assisting the Pre-Construction Managers by creating fireplans, project lead programmes, engineering and design commissions (following the relevant training).

Essential Technical Expertise

  • Awareness of timber frame construction
  • Awareness of timber frame manufacturing
  • Some relevant industry experience
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Working knowledge of MS Office
