We are delighted to announce that we have won the “Excellence in People Development (over 20 employees) Award” in this year’s Fife Business Awards. We were awarded for our commitment to the training and development of our people.

The annual Fife Business Awards recognise those companies that demonstrate their commitment to delivering excellence. From small start-ups to long-established companies, the awards celebrate the most successful and forward-thinking businesses in Fife.

Rowena McBlane, HR Director of James Donaldson and Sons accepted the award on behalf of the group. Speaking on the win, Rowena said: “It’s always a great honour to be recognised for our training and development programmes. Our people are our greatest asset and are at the heart of our core values, and winning this award is the recognition they deserve for their hard work and achievements.”

The winners were announced at the awards ceremony on Friday 29th March, at the Rothes Halls in Glenrothes.

ames Donaldson & Sons has appointed Pamela Scott to its Board of Directors.

Pamela is currently Global Operational Excellence Director at Diageo, having held a number of senior leadership positions across the global beverage alcohol organisation, including technical, innovation, packaging operations, HR and global transformation areas.

Joining the Donaldson board in addition to her current responsibilities at Diageo, Pamela brings extensive skills in leadership and strategic thinking from experience covering the end to end supply chain in a European and Global Context. Her major achievements have included leading the Guinness Technical function in Ireland, development and implementing Global Supply Chain Strategy, leading the Europe Supply HR team, as well as heading up significant parts of Scotland Packaging Operations.

Neil Donaldson non-executive Chairman at James Donaldson & Sons comments: “It’s a real pleasure for us to have Pamela join our board. She brings a fresh perspective, with a strong focus on efficiency, best practice and driving performance improvement. We offer her a very warm welcome to the business, and look forward to seeing the impact of her presence on the Board.”

Pamela added: “With 27 years in a global drinks company I am delighted to be joining James Donaldson & Sons, an impressive, longstanding family business.  I look forward to working with this team to build an even more successful future.”

As well as her role within Diageo, Pamela is on the Board of Directors of North British Distillery; a Non-Executive Director of Castle Rock Edinvar Housing Association and a trustee for the Big Hearts Community Trust.

The annual Fife Business awards recognises excellence and celebrates the most successful and forward-thinking businesses in Fife from across all sectors of trade, commerce and not-for-profit. James Donaldson and Sons has been shortlisted for its continued commitment to delivering excellence in Fife, where the business began in 1860.

Scott Cairns, Group Managing Director commented on the shortlistings, “James Donaldson and Sons has been operating in Fife for 158 years, and it is a fantastic achievement to be recognised for a local award. After being awarded ‘Outstanding Business Performance’ at last year’s awards, we are excited to have been shortlisted for not one but two categories this year.”

The winners will be announced at the awards evening on Friday 29th March 2019.

James Donaldson Group Rises in Sunday Times Grant Thornton Top Track 250

James Donaldson Group announced its ranking in the Sunday Times Top Track 250 Companies in the UK, for the second year running.

James Donaldson Group announced its ranking in the Sunday Times Top Track 250 Companies in the UK, for the second year running. JDS Group has risen from number 207 last year, to number 198 in the rankings this year. To be credited on the list for the second year running is a huge achievement for the James Donaldson Group.

Now in its 14th year, the annual Top Track 250 is a league table that ranks Britain’s private mid-market growth companies with the biggest sales. The full list was published in the Sunday Times on Sunday 7th October.

Scott Cairns, Group Managing Director commented on the ranking, “To be ranked alongside some of most successful and prestigious companies in Britain is a fantastic achievement for us as a group. The ranking not only recognises our growth and strong financial performance in the past year, but also our commitment to our customers.”

The 14th annual Top Track 250 awards dinner was held on Tuesday 20 November – at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London.

James Donaldson and Sons is delighted to announce its shortlisting for the ‘Scottish Family Business of the Year’ award at this year’s Herald Family Business Awards.

The Scottish Family Business of the Year award recognises businesses with over 100 employees, who have enjoyed outstanding success. Now in its 7th year, the Herald Family Business Awards celebrate the success of the family business sector and the contribution these firms make to the wider communities that they operate in. James Donaldson and Sons have been shortlisted for its ongoing successes within the Timber Industry.

Scott Cairns, Managing Director for the group commented on the shortlisting, “James Donaldson and Sons have been operating as a family business for over 150 years, and it is always an achievement to be recognised for our hard work and strong family values. After winning the ‘Rural Family Business’ category at last year’s awards, we are honored to be recognised again this year.”

The awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday 5th December at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Glasgow where the winners will be announced.

JDS Group are committed to giving customers the highest level of quality across all 5 of their businesses and the group has executed this commitment by ensuring that all businesses now comply with ISO9001 international standards.

JDS Group are committed to giving customers the highest level of quality across all 5 of their businesses and the group has executed this commitment by ensuring that all businesses now comply with ISO9001 international standards.

In September 2018, James Donaldson Group announced that all 5 of its business subsidiaries are now ISO9001:2015 accredited. ISO9001 is an internationally recognised standard with a focus on quality management systems and performance.

Nu-Style Products, MGM Timber and James Donaldson Insulation were the latest subsidiaries to gain their ISO9001:2015 accreditation last month.

Integrated Systems Manager, Mark Murphy commented, “With the new release of ISO 9001 to 2015 standard, and I am pleased that after the implementation and improvement of various management systems that this has now been achieved. Group-wide ISO9001 accreditation shows our commitment to our customers, putting them first in everything we do.”

James Donaldson Group welcomed over 60 of their shareholders, family, friends, pensioners and employees at their head office in Glenrothes, Fife to unveil a portrait of late Honorary President of the group, George Donaldson.

James Donaldson Group welcomed over 60 of their shareholders, family, friends, pensioners and employees at their head office in Glenrothes, Fife to unveil a portrait of late Honorary President of the group, George Donaldson.

George Donaldson, one of the Timber Industry’s most highly regarded professionals joined James Donaldson & Sons in 1948 and was appointed as Managing Director in 1969. He became Chairman in 1971 and served in this role until 2001, when he retired and was appointed as Honorary President.

George was also President of the Timber Trade Federation and Chairman of TRADA, (Timber Research and Development Association) during his career. In 2000, George attended Buckingham Palace and was awarded with a CBE for his outstanding services to the Timber Industry.

The portrait was painted by a local Dundee artist, Maggie Milne who captured George at James Donaldson Timber’s Sawmill at Elmpark in Leven. The painting was unveiled by Non-Executive Chairman and son of George, Neil Donaldson at the event on Thursday 4th October. Neil commented on the unveiling: “This portrait is a great tribute to my late father and will hang in our head office in Glenrothes for all employees and visitors to commemorate his many years of service, not only to James Donaldson & Sons, but the Timber Industry as a whole. I would like to say a huge thank you to Maggie for all her hard work in creating the painting, it looks exactly like him!”

James Donaldson Group (JDS) announced today that Les Calder has joined the group as Business Technology Director to lead the growth of the group’s IT resources and help to leverage current systems.

James Donaldson Group (JDS) announced today that Les Calder has joined the group as Business Technology Director to lead the growth of the group’s IT resources and help to leverage current systems. Les comes with a wealth of experience, having spent eight years as Group IT Director at Devro PLC, where he was instrumental in implementing the group IT business transformation strategy.

Les’ addition to the group will help connect the businesses, and utilise new technology that will future proof the Group’s infrastructures both internally, and with its partners. “I am excited to start this new challenge within the JDS group and I look forward to working alongside the team to further develop the group’s technological capabilities,’’ said Les.

Scott Cairns, Group Managing Director commented on the new appointment, “We are all excited to have Les on board and his skills and experience makes him a key addition to the team. Based at our head office in Glenrothes, Les will become a regular visitor to the operational sites, working with our Managing Directors and production professionals alike to grow our capabilities within IT. Les’ appointment is a sign of our commitment to continuously grow and improve and I am confident that he will play a key role in transforming our IT systems.’’

Les’ unique understanding of how technology can positively impact large-scale operations will help achieve JDS’s goal of delivering value through innovation to our customers and employees.

We are excited to announce that James Donaldson Group has been shortlisted for Website of the Year in this year’s TTJ awards.

The website of the year award recognises achievement in the development and use of websites by companies in the timber industry. James Donaldson Group have been shortlisted for their work on the new group website, launched in December 2017.

Jean Paul Malum, Group Marketing Manager at James Donaldson Group says “We are delighted to be shortlisted for the Website of the year award in this year’s TTJ awards. Creating the group website was a real team effort and gave us the opportunity to capture our rich heritage, values and showcased what working for the group is like.’’

The winners will be announced at the awards event on Friday 21st September at The InterContinental Park Lane, London.

Jenny Gilruth, MSP for Mid Fife and Glenrothes has visited the James Donaldson Group in her constituency to discuss Scottish Government support for local businesses.

Jenny Gilruth, MSP for Mid Fife and Glenrothes has visited the James Donaldson Group in her constituency to discuss Scottish Government support for local businesses.

The visit to JDS was organised by Scottish Enterprise, who have been helping JDS with access to experience and supporting the business’ growth.

Commenting on the visit, Jenny said

‘I was delighted to visit James Donaldson Group at their Glenrothes-based headquarters. The JDS group are a key employer in my constituency and it was particularly heartening to learn more about the company’s Fife heritage.

The company’s commitment to integrity has been a key driver in their economic success story. The brand of James Donaldson is today nationally renowned and I am extremely proud to have them based in my constituency’
